John Gee was born on February 9, 1895 in Sturbridge, MA. He served in the infantry in World War I. Mr. Gee graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago around 1923, and taught thre as well as the Cleveland School of Art. Moving to Sarasota FL around 1927, he taught at the Ringling School of Art. As an illustrator of children's books and magazines, he won national recognition. For the Highlights for Children magazine, he wrote and drew a popular comic strip, The Timbertoes. He briefly worked for Walt Disney on a Silly Symphony cartoon, The Country Cousin. He also wrote and/or illustrated several books, including Bunnie Bear. His comics strip Pam and Tam ran for a time in The Atlanta Constitution. John Gee passed away on February 20, 1977
