Murphy Anderson (American, 1926-2015)
Comic Book Art
Murphy Anderson (American, b. 1926): established himself as one of the finest pencilers and inkers of the Silver and Bronze Ages, primarily at DC. A fan of Golden Age legend Lou Fine, Anderson perfected a fine line brush technique that rivaled that of his artistic idol. Among the many characters that Anderson worked on are Adam Strange, the Atom, the Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, and Superman, as well as some of the covers for the Justice League of America. Among the key pencilers that Anderson teamed with were fellow DC legends Carmine Infantino, Gil Kane, and Curt Swan. Anderson did the artwork solo for stories featuring Hawkman, the Spectre, and the Atomic Knights. In addition to his work in comic books, Anderson also drew the Buck Rogers comic strip in 1947-49, and again in 1958-59. In later years Anderson has drawn many outstanding cover re-creations, including some that were based on the work of the aforementioned Lou Fine.
