John Romita Jr. (American, b.1956)
Comic Book Art
John Romita, Jr. got his first professional credit in 1968 at the age of 13 when he created The Prowler, who his father, the legendary John Romita, Sr., used in Amazing Spider-Man #78. It was only natural that he would begin working for Marvel when he got older. His first Marvel work was sketching cover layouts for Marvel UK reprints. Amazing Spider-Man Annual #11, published in 1977, was his first state-side art credit. Well-remembered for his runs on Iron Man, Amazing Spider-Man, and Daredevil, he was also the artist when Dazzler got her own book in 1981, as well as for Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions, the first mini-series published by Marvel. In recent years he has become a mainstay artist for Marvel, handling many cover variants and special event books. His father casts a large shadow; however, Romita Jr. has done a wonderful job of becoming his own force-to-be-reckoned-with in the comic industry.
