Strange Adventures #1 (DC, 1950) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to white pages. This unique cover is one you can recognize from across the room thanks to its hybrid photo/grey tone look. This key first issue of the long-running series contains an adaptation of "Destination Moon," with a preview of the movie. With stories by Edmond Hamilton, David Reed, and Gardner Fox (who are credited on the cover, a rare honor for writers), this seminal issue got Strange Adventures off to a good start -- good enough that it would eventually become one of the most successful sci-fi titles of the 1950s. Dagar, Desert Hawk #14 (Fox Features Syndicate, 1948) Condition: VF+. You can accuse Fox of many things, but at least their comics delivered what the covers promised. This book's got more bondage than Wonder Woman and Somerset Maugham put together, and "headlight" panels are used in a very liberal fashion. The cover art for this issue (the first issue of the title, by the way) is by Edmond Good; Jack Kamen added interior art. Dagar, Desert Hawk #14 Davis Crippen ("D" Copy) pedigree (Fox Features Syndicate, 1948) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Cream to off-white pages. This very underrated "headlight" and bondage cover is by Edmond Good -- never has so little fabric strained to cover so much! It's the first issue of a title that basically took Fox's successful jungle-mag formula from Zoot Comics and transplanted it to the desert. This excellent copy is no mirage! With great not just good "good girl" artwork in this title from the two artists who essentially defined the genre, Jack Kamen and Matt Baker, plus stellar contributions from Al Feldstein and Edmond Good, jungle action somehow became more..interesting. This issue features a Kamen bondage cover, and this particular copy is the second-nicest issue #25 that CGC has evaluated to date. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $232; NM 9.4 value = $400.
