House of Secrets #92 (DC, 1971) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages. The most valuable DC comic of the Bronze Age is this one right here, the first appearance of Swamp Thing. This origin story set down the facts a bit differently than some might remember: for one thing, Swamp Thing was Alex Olsen, not Alec Holland. He was also a hit, leading to the character getting his own book in short order. Len Wein wrote the story, and fan favorite Bernie Wrightson drew it as well as the cover. By the way, host character Abel also introduces a couple of other yarns in the book, with art by Alan Weiss and Dick Dillin. Only six copies of this issue have been certified with a higher grade by CGC as of this writing. Overstreet 2004 NM- 9.2 value = $800.

House of Secrets #92 (DC, 1971) CGC NM- 9.2 Cream to off-white pages. The first appearance of Swamp Thing by Bernie Wrightson in high grade. Did you know that Jeff Jones, Mike Kaluta, and Alan Weiss assisted Bernie on this comic? This classic cover is one of the most recognizable images of the early '70s. A tiny nick in the top corner of the spine and some insignificant spine dings are present, with some tanning to the bottom edge of the back cover. Despite these defects, this is a truly gorgeous copy that is extremely sought-after by all Bronze Age collectors. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $700.

House of Secrets #92 (DC, 1971) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white to white pages. As Bronze Age keys get more and more expensive, the race is on to snap up high-grade copies while you can still afford them! This is the most valuable Bronze Age DC, the first appearance of Swamp Thing, written by Len Wein and drawn by Bernie Wrightson. Adding to the mystique is the lore about the deadline crunch, that meant Wrightson had to get help from pals Mike Kaluta, Jeff Jones, and Alan Weiss, with Louise Jones (now Louise Simonson) serving as cover model! By the way, host character Abel also introduces a couple of other yarns in the book, with art by Weiss and Dick Dillin. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $400; VF/NM 9.0 value = $650.
