This unpublished piece is the earliest original cover art by Barks known to exist. Barks hand colored this "duck-lectable" delineation with colored pencil in 1995, and it was later published in the
Carl Barks Library
. The image area measures 11.5" x 15.5". Framed and matted and in Excellent condition.

Bernie Wrightson - Frankenstein, Splash Page 88 Original Art (1976).
"I slaked my thirst at the brook; and then lying down, was overcome by sleep." So reads the caption for this dazzling piece of fantasy illustration. When one hears the name Bernie Wrightson, a variety of macabre images swirl through the brains of comic-book and horror fans. Bernie Wrightson's life-long affection for the Frankenstein mythos proved to be a constant inspiration for the artist. In Christopher Zavisa's monograph,
Berni Wrightson: A Look Back
, Wrightson mused, "Ever since I first started working professionally I drew the monster into various things. You can find him in just about everything from fanzines to
Swamp Thing
. It seems as though my whole career up to this point has been in preparation for an illustration of the novel." This spectacular piece has an image area that measures 11" x 16" and is in Excellent condition, without the use of corrective white-out.

Frank Frazetta - Unfinished Original Painting for Little Annie Fanny (Playboy, undated).
This spectacular watercolor of Little Annie Fanny was painted by Frank Frazetta in the mid-1960s as a try-out for Harvey Kurtzmann. Harvey was a longtime friend of Frazetta, and he knew that Frazetta could draw and paint sexy women like no one else. He desperately wanted Frazetta's help for his "Little Annie Fanny" feature that appeared in
Playboy
magazine. Harvey approached Hugh Hefner with the idea of hiring Frank. Hefner told Harvey: "Get him to do a little coloring of Annie and show it to me. I want to make sure he can draw women." The rest is history. Frank painted the study in a lush and detailed style, adding a lot of beautifully blended colors, wonderful sexy energy, and a perfect "on model" rendition of Annie. The story goes that Hefner was so impressed with the original art that he added it to his own collection. Years later, Harvey got it from him as part of a contractual settlement and kept it until his death. At that point Denis Kitchen obtained it from the Kutzmann estate and sold it to Alex Acevedo of the Alexander Gallery. Subsequently, Dave Winiewicz showed the original art to Frazetta and verified the above story. Frazetta was quite amused that Hef needed proof that Frank could draw women! The art measures 12" x 7.5", and is beautifully framed and matted.

Alex Raymond - "Captain Blood" Half Sheet Movie Poster Illustration Original Art (Warner Bros.,1935).
"His sword carved his name across the continents -- and his glory across the seas!" Alex Raymond was an inspired choice to illustrate a swashbuckling scene based on Rafael Sabatini's epic pirate yarn,
Captain Blood
. Commissioned by the Warner Bros. Studio, Raymond created this lush vision of the high-spirited action-adventure film that made a star out of Errol Flynn. The seafaring movie was touted as "A million dollars worth of adventure," and Alex Raymond also delivered the swordplay and romance. This image was used on both the half sheet and the title lobby card for the film. As you can see, the printed poster image does not do justice to the lush, atmospheric and delicate hues of this incredible original. The gorgeous drybrush inking technique used in this mixed-media drawing shows the profound influence that illustrator Matt Clark had on Raymond's approach during the mid-thirties. The image area of this mixed-media masterwork measures approximately 12.5" x 16", and the art is in Excellent condition. Many Alex Raymond aficionados consider 1935-36 to be the prime period of his career and after basking in the glory of this magnificent piece, it would be hard to dispute that sentiment.
Please note that this lot contains only the original art, but not the poster (which is shown to in order to document the illustration's final, printed use)
.

Walt Disney Studios - Mickey's Steamroller Preliminary Poster Illustration Original Art (Disney, 1934).
It's full speed ahead, as streetworker Mickey takes control of a steamroller, romancing Minnie, while his nephews, Morty and Ferdy, tag along for a fun ride, in this preliminary sketch. Created for the original short, which was released on June 16, 1934, this art has an image area of 7" x 10.5". There is some overall aging apparent, and a small stain near the bottom; also, a tiny tear near the top of the "U" in Mouse has been expertly repaired, leaving this attractive item in a strong Very Good condition.

Les Clark - Earliest Known Mickey Mouse Advertising Drawing Original Art, Group of 2 (Walt Disney Studio, 1929).
These iconic images of Mickey Mouse were created in 1929 for use on Mickey's first licensed product, a school writing tablet. Animator Les Clark received his first Walt Disney Studio screen credit for his work on "Steamboat Willie." Because he started with Disney in 1927, Clark achieved the noteworthy distinction in the company's history as "the first of the nine old men" (the loving nickname for the most lasting members of Disney's famed animation staff). These drawings captured the seminal Mickey pose of the era, and the pose was used on countless movie posters, house ads, and an unimaginable array of products, both here and abroad. The drawings present the most recognizable image of Mickey Mouse from his early period. Their importance in the character's history can scarcely be overstated. Clark did two versions of the pose. One is as a classic "clear line" image, executed in graphite pencil on two-hole animation paper, while the other features the same pose superimposed within a scaled-off grid. The grid was used by other artists to help recreate the pose in exact proportion at a larger or smaller size. These "mouse-terpieces" were stored for years by their creator and were originally offered in the marketplace as hailing from "the Private Collection of Les Clark." The drawings are accompanied by a May, 1999 Letter of Authenticity from Joe Mannarino, former comic book and comic art auction organizer at Christie's East. Each drawing has an average overall size of 9.5" x 12", and both are in Excellent condition. (Total: 2 Items)

Although perhaps best known for his fearsome fantasy scenes, Frank Frazetta is a supremely talented "all-around" artist, as these lighthearted portraits of Henry Fonda and the cast of the movie, "Yours, Mine, and Ours" (this scene appeared under the word "Mine" on the poster) demonstrate. This superb mixed-media on illustration board painting has an overall size of 16" x 19", and the art is in Excellent condition.
