Description

Joe Shuster - Superman Sketch Original Art (1941). Flush with pride over the early success of his Superman feature (with writer Jerry Siegel), artist Shuster made a point of becoming acquainted with the fans among the general populace, often bestowing spontaneous original artwork. While traveling aboard Seaboard Railways' famous Orange Blossom Special on New Year's Day of 1941, Shuster met a Georgetown University football champ named Chris Pavich, who was en route with his team to the Orange Bowl. The artist produced these Superman sketches on the spot and gave them to the athlete, with an inscription (front, lower center). The double-faced piece has long been preserved within the Pavich family. Graphite on bond-paper letterhead, measuring 6.75" x 10". Quarter-folded and lightly spot-stained/toned, the piece is in Very Good condition.
