Detective Comics #1 (DC, 1937) CGC Apparent PR 0.5 Extensive (P) Cream to off-white pages.
The scarcity of the first issue of the title that DC was named after is legendary, as is Vin Sullivan's cover with its Fu Manchu-like character. Golden Age pioneers Creig Flessel and Joe Shuster contributed interior art for this milestone book. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, seals, cover cleaned, interior lightened, re-glossed. (All 3 edges trimmed). Wrong back cover - incomplete." Overstreet 2006 GD 2.0 value = $8,850.

s by Carl Barks. Mr. McDuck's own series would begin with #4. This copy's pristine back cover really wowed us, and as you can see, it looks superb from the front as well. Overstreet 2006 NM- 9.2 value = $800. CGC census 11/06: 2 in 9.2, 1 higher.

All Select Comics #1 (Timely, 1943) CGC Apparent VF+ 8.5 Moderate (P) Off-white pages.
This is one of the most memorable of all the Timely covers to feature the "Big Three" of the Human Torch, Captain America, and the Sub-Mariner, and we've seldom seen it looking better than on this professionally restored specimen. The classic cover scene is by Alex Schomburg, natch. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cover cleaned, reinforced, re-glossed." Overstreet 2006 GD 2.0 value = $1,167; VG 4.0 value = $2,334; FN 6.0 value = $3,501; VF 8.0 value = $8,753.

Listed at number 32 in Overstreet's ranking of the most valuable Golden Age books, this book features the first appearance of the Sandman. A
blond-haired
Superman also graces the cover, while Scoop Scanlon, Zatara, and Slam Bradley make appearances. Contributing artists include Joe Shuster, Fred Guardineer, Bob Kane, Creig Flessel, and Vincent Sullivan. This copy has a 15-cent sticker covering the original 25-cent cover price. Don't miss out on an affordable copy of this unique and hard-to-find book. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: Moderate amount of color touch on cover." Overstreet 2006 GD 2.0 value = $2,100; VG 4.0 value = $4,200.

Fantastic Comics #1 (Fox, 1939) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Off-white pages.
Lou Fine fans won't want to miss this copy, one of the finest known to exist of this first issue. Fine's fellow Iger shop artists handled the interior, which saw the first appearance of Samson. Also debuting is Stardust, who, as Overstreet once noted, "assassinated wrongdoers regularly." Whatever flaws may have kept this from a higher grade are very minor in nature, the book presents extremely well. Overstreet 2006 FN 6.0 value = $1,401; VF 8.0 value = $3,269. CGC census 12/06: 1 in 7.0, 1 higher.

Two of the best DC artists of the day, Creig Flessel and Jack Burnley contributed to this issue, and Burnley also did the cover, his first. This precursor to
World's Best Comics
, later to become
World's Finest Comics
, showed Superman, Batman, and Robin together for the first time. Overstreet 2006 VG 4.0 value = $2,256; FN 6.0 value = $3,384. CGC census 12/06: 4 in 5.0, 15 higher.

Etta Candy's second appearance sees the plus-size gal receive a "mental radio" from Wonder Woman, which the amazing Amazon can activate through telepathy (a device used often in later stories). Irwin Hasen handled cover art chores in addition to drawing the Wildcat feature. The Wonder Woman story was drawn by the character's regular artist, H. G. Peter. Overstreet 2006 VF 8.0 value = $1,756. CGC census 12/06: 1 in 8.0, 1 higher.

The great robot/sci-fi cover by Lou Fine ranks with the best of the Golden Age -- Overstreet credits this as being tied with the cover from
Movie
#6 as the second robot cover ever. The interior art sparkled with art from Fine, Bob Powell, and George Tuska. Overstreet 2006 FN 6.0 value = $1,005; VF 8.0 value = $2,178. CGC census 12/06: 1 in 6.5, 2 higher.
