Superman #1 Nova Scotia pedigree (DC, 1939) CGC VG/FN 5.0 Off-white pages. You're looking at the fourth most-valuable comic issue of all according to Overstreet, and a comic of great significance in comic book history. You could argue that it's just as important as Action #1, and the reason is apparent when you consider the other successful comics on the stands at that time: almost all were anthologies (like Action), and it was unheard-of to devote an entire series to a character who was created for the comic books and wasn't a proven success from the more traditional media of cartoons or newspaper strips. DC took that risk, and the rest is history. The issue's famous cover is by Superman's co-creator Joe Shuster. The back cover is considered the first pinup back cover in comics history. An unrestored copy of this book is not to be missed! The pedigree is so named because it was an auction house based in Nova Scotia that auctioned the entire collection as one lot (gulp).
