Toei Animation (Japanese)
Toei Animation is a Japanese animation studio that traces its roots to 1948, when it began as Nihon Doga (Japan Animated Films) in Tokyo. The studio entered a new phase in 1956 after being acquired by Toei Company and operating under the Toei Doga name, developing a large-scale production pipeline for theatrical animation.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Toei expanded from shorts into feature work and then into television, with early milestones including its first feature-length film, The White Snake (1958), and its first TV series, Ken, the Wild Boy (1963). Over the decades that followed, the studio became closely associated with long-running TV animation, producing series that have had lasting cultural reach in Japan and internationally.
Today, Toei Animation is headquartered in Nakano, Tokyo, and is known for an extensive catalog that includes Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Mazinger Z, and many other titles. The company adopted the Toei Animation name in 1998, reflecting the identity it had long used internationally.
