E.C. Segar - Popeye Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 8-21-38 (King Features Syndicate,1938). J. Wellington Wimpy's gift for gab is showcased in this side-splitting Sunday. His scheme to pitch woo at Olive Oyl is drawn with the timing and staging of a true comedic genius. As the final tier shows, there is no doubt that the hilarious E. C. Segar ranks right alongside other giants of humor such as Jack Benny, Groucho Marx, and Bob Hope. As Segar once said, "Popeye is much more than a goofy character to me. He represents all my emotions, and he is an outlet for them. I'd like to cut loose and knock the heck out of a lot of people, but my good judgement and size hold me back." The art is in Excellent condition, and the size is approximately 21.5" x 18". With Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Wimpy on an E. C. E. C. Segar - Original Comic Strip Art for Thimble Theater dated 9-21-30 (King Features Syndicate, 1930). "Born" on January 17, 1929, Popeye quickly became the star of the Segar's long-running syndicated feature, Thimble Theater. A scant two years after his debut on the printed page, Popeye made the transition to the animated feature, eventually eclipsing even Mickey Mouse in popularity, a popularity that continues unabated to this very day. The Sunday page offered here is from very early in Popeye's life, before he developed his more-familiar look. Measuring 21" x 19.5", this Sunday page is in exquisite shape. Some experts estimate that fewer than 50 Segar Sunday pages currently exist, so this is an opportunity that may never pass this way again.

E. C. Segar - Popeye Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 9-13-35 (King Features Syndicate, 1935). "I yam what I yam, and tha's all I yam!" With these immortal words, Popeye puts forth his credo for all to hear, and no amount of stomping on the floor from Olive will make him change his ways! This unusual Sunday strip is unrestrained with adult content, and would be considered "cutting edge" in today's papers. Popeye's ability to be flexible is tested in this side-splitter from Segar. Tricked into a serious dalliance with Olive Oyl's friend, all is fine with our hero until Olive wants equal rights! Segar, who created Popeye, and drew the feature from 1919 until 1938, claimed that the spinach-eating champion represented his own emotions; it's clear he was involved in a romantic problem with this one! Popeye was generally good-natured and faithful to his one true love, Olive; here we see the frustrations this single love can bring. The page is in Excellent condition, and the size is approximately 21.5" x 18"; there is a small tear in the margin that does not reach the art. With a major character in every panel, this incredible page should stir up considerable interest among collectors.

Elzie Segar and Elmer "Doc" Winner - Popeye Sunday Comic Strip Original Art, dated 6-12-38 (King Features Syndicate, 1938). Once again, when it comes to mooching burgers, J. Wellington Wimpy remains the undisputed champion of the world. To top this latest scheme off, after buying Wimpy a delicious burger, Popeye can't even boast about "who likes who better than who" -- thanks to classic Wimpy logic! E. C. Segar died on October 13, 1938, and his final Sunday was published on October 2, 1938. This strip hails from several months before his untimely death. Although this page is not signed by Segar (there are a number of pages after this date that are signed by him and from this same story), the talented cartoonist was still working on his beloved creation with the assistance of Elmer "Doc" Winner. The image area of this hilarious Sunday measures 20.5" x 16.75", and the art is in Excellent condition.
