Rowena Morrill - "King Dragon" Paperback Cover Painting Original Art (Ace Books, 1980). This is one of Rowena's most famous images, the iconic cover to King Dragon by Andrew J. Offutt. This particular image gained notoriety when The New York Daily News reported that Saddam Hussein had the work hanging in a secluded townhouse during his fall in Baghdad -- but that particular painting turned out to be a mere copy. Rest assured that this is the real deal. It hails from a private collection and is offered on the marketplace for the first time since the early eighties. This cover scene was based on a fantasy illustration originally drawn by Esteban Maroto for a proposed Ace Books illustrated edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' At the Earth's Core. When that Ace Books project ultimately fell through, the publishers commissioned Offutt to write a novel around the Maroto illustrations. The end result was the novel King Dragon. This stunning cover painted by Rowena is actually based upon Maroto's Pellucidar drawing of the sacrifice of a girl to a mahar. In any case, Rowena's classical training is showcased in this first-rate fantasy masterwork. With an image area measuring 15" x 25", the painting is framed, and in Excellent condition.

Rowena Morrill - "The Shape Changer" Paperback Cover Painting Original Art (Ace Books, 1981). The hazards of temptation are potently portrayed in this exotic illustration by fantasy mistress, Rowena Morrill. This cover graced Keith Laumer's novel, The Shape Changer. In that novel, Sir Lafayette Leary, a rich noble, finds out that he has developed a dubious reputation, and meets the man responsible -- the other Lafayette Leary, a stranger with his face who wants to see him dead. No sooner does a bold adventurer approach a bound beauty, than the floor gives way from beneath him -- and you'll fall for this sumptuous scene yourself! In The Art of Rowena, the artist wrote, "I love the humor in this scene. Obviously the lady is a trap for the hero. I found it an entertaining twist on the classic theme of a hero coming to rescue a maiden in distress." This compelling image is reproduced on page 65 of the book. Painted in acrylic, this wondrous work has an image area measuring 15.5" x 25". The painting is framed and in Excellent condition.

Rowena Morrill - "The Iron Dream" Cover Original Art (Pocket, 1982). Norman Spinrad's novel The Iron Dream is the purported science fiction masterpiece of an Adolph Hitler who, after briefly dabbling in German radical politics, emigrated to the U.S. and became an author. Hitler's book is The Lord of the Swastika, a fever dream sword and sorcery epic, gripping in its action and pathology. Spinrad's over-the-top Nazi saga (which was banned in Germany for eight years), is potently portrayed in this cover illustration by fantasy mistress, Rowena Morrill. Painted in oils on heavy illustration board, this art has an image area measuring 15.5" x 26" and, aside from a few minor blemishes, the work is in Very Good condition.

The Undead - Book Sail 16th Anniversary catalog, #507/1,400 (McLaughlin Press, 1984) Condition: Fine-. This rather strange book was published by the late John McLaughlin to commemorate the 16th anniversary of his shop, The Book Sail. This 300+ page book is actually a catalog, showcasing the world-class collection of pop culture memorabilia which McLaughlin had accumulated (the same collection which Heritage has been currently auctioning). One of 1,000 softcover editions (there were also 400 hardcovers made), it features cover art by Rowena Morrill, and is individually numbered with an ink compound containing human blood! This copy comes without its original silver band, and has a few minor cover scuffs. From the collection of John McLaughlin.
