Wow Comics #nn (#1) Mile High pedigree (Fawcett, 1940) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. Wow is the word here! Expect jaws to drop when this baby is shown. Overstreet notes that this book's cover "was printed on unstable paper stock and is rarely found in Fine or Mint condition." This copy, from the renowned Edgar Church collection, is as near-perfect as they come. In fact, there isn't a copy that can even come close to matching this grade in the current CGC census! The only imperfection one might notice is a tiny amount of wear on the lower left corner. CGC also notes a very minor amount of glue on the spine, but it doesn't show. All you'll see is be tons of great cover gloss and deep color. If you want to talk about art, there's Joe Simon and Jack Kirby here, as well as C. C. Beck. On the inside pages, there's the origin of Mr. Scarlet, and the first Atom Blake, Jim Dolan, Rick O'Shay, and Boy Wizard stories. But, oh that cover! Overstreet 2003 NM 9.4 value = $18,500.

All Star Comics #24 Mile High pedigree (DC, 1945) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages. We've seen Hitler covers before, but why is Otto von Bismarck joining him? It's because wartime propaganda was the order of the day for this issue, which features a look at all German aggressors throughout history. There's a whole bunch of extra JSA members here too, with Mr. Terrific making his only appearance with the group, and his Sensation Comics cohort, Wildcat, making one of only two appearances. The Flash and Green Lantern rejoin the group in this issue. Also of note is that Joe Kubert drew the issue's Hawkman chapter. And we can't resist mentioning C. C. Beck's Captain Tootsie ad on the back cover, featuring a blatant Sivana ripoff named Dr. Narsty! Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value = $2,050. CGC census 9/05: 1 in 9.6, none higher.

World's Finest Comics #20 (DC, 1945) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages. Jack Burnley and Charles Paris give us a light-hearted moment as Superman "helps" Robin find out his true weight. Joe Simon and Win Mortimer provide interiors with the regular features of Green Arrow, Zatara, Boy Commandos and Johnny Everyman by John Daly. Squarebound issues like this are very tough in high grade, which makes this copy exceptional. As an added bonus, there is an ad for Tootsie Rolls that features Captain Tootsie as drawn by C. C. Beck and Peter Costanza. As of this writing, this is the highest grade the CGC has awarded this issue. Great chance to add an early World's Finest issue to your collection. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $725 and NM 9.4 value = $1275.

This copy of the first issue of the title (continuing from All-American Comics) is also first in CGC's census at NM- 9.2 (tied with one other copy). Artists include C. C. All-American Western #103 Vancouver pedigree (DC, 1948) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages. This is the first issue of the title, changing from the previous All-American Comics. The clever cover is by one of the stellar comic artists of the era, Alex Toth, who also worked on the interior story art along with Joe Kubert. C. C. Beck drew a Captain Tootsie ad. The black background of the cover really makes Toth's work stand out, especially on our pedigree copy, which has the highest grade yet certified by CGC for #103. Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value = $625. CGC census 5/05: 2 in 9.2, none higher.
