Alan Kupperberg was an American comics artist known for energetic storytelling across both superhero and humor work. Born in New York City in 1953, he entered the field through Neal Adams’ Continuity Associates before launching a long run of freelance work for major publishers. He became a familiar presence at Marvel and DC from the 1970s through the 1990s, drawing a wide range of titles and developing a reputation for clear, punchy action and expressive character work. He also wrote and drew projects of his own, including the one-shot Obnoxio the Clown vs. the X-Men, which showed his comedic range. Kupperberg’s career bridged multiple eras of mainstream comics, from fill-in issues and team books to high-visibility franchise assignments. He died in 2015, leaving behind a body of work remembered for its pace, readability, and versatility.
