Description

Alan Kupperberg and Dave Hunt The Transformers #73 Optimus Prime vs. Megatron Double Page Pin-Up Illustration Original Art (Marvel, 1990). A stunning two-page pin-up pits the Autobot and Decepticon leaders against each other before the Twin Towers of New York City, creating one of the most striking and surreal images in Transformers history. Drawn years before the tragedy of 9/11, the World Trade Center backdrop now lends the scene an unintended poignancy, freezing a moment that can never be repeated. Long a double-take curiosity for fans, the choice of such a specific real-world landmark has little to do with the story itself, yet feels perfectly at home in the series' early, Earth-focused years. Add in Megatron's throwback head design, and the result is a one-of-a-kind, poster-worthy showdown that stands apart from anything else in the comics. Ink over graphite on two Bristol boards with a combined image area of 20" x 14.5". Light toning, smudging/soiling, staining, whiteout corrections, scraping effects, two small tape cover-ups, blue pencil editorial marks, marginal color notation, and minor creasing/handling wear. Signed by Kupperberg in the lower right corner of each page, and by Hunt in the lower right corner of the second page. Overall, in Very Good condition.
