Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson - Original Art for Showcase #36 The Atom (DC, 1962).
From the third appearance of the Silver Age Atom comes this stunning page of twice-up original art by the unbeatable team of Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson, two pinnacles of the era. Here, the Atom makes a quick trip to Budapest via the phone lines, and hooks up with a deep-cover operative who assists him in his mission. The final panel of the Atom swinging, Batman-style, towards a keyhole, is worth the price of admission alone. Original art from this period is getting tougher to find, with most of it tucked firmly into private collections, and is always coveted when it does come to market. Bid early and enthusiastically, as a prize like this doesn't come along every day. 14" x 21.5", with very little white-out, and some light aging at the edges.

Detective Comics #32 (DC, 1939) CGC GD+ 2.5 Cream to off-white pages.
This early Batman vehicle is a book of firsts; the first appearance of Dala (Monk's assistant), Batman's first use of a gun, the first time a superhero used a gun in comic books, and the first Batman head logo on a cover. Golden Age giants Fred Guardineer (cover), Bob Kane, Jerry Siegel, and Joe Shuster provide art. CGC notes, "Two pieces of tape on interior cover at staples." CGC hasn't certified a high-grade copy of this issue yet. In fact, only one copy has managed a grade higher than Fine! The grade could mean a very attractive winning bid price for an historical DC issue. Overstreet 2003 GD 2.0 value = $593.

Howard Nostrand - Original Art for Tomb of Terror #15, Complete 5-page Story "The Man Germ" (Harvey, 1954).
Frank Darcy is a not-nice-guy plundering the jungles of Africa, when he comes across a gigantic statue, and makes his way into it -- only to find that the statue is alive, and he's now "The Man Germ!" Can he escape the body's grotesque defense mechanisms? Supple linework by Howard Nostrand brings this gnarly tale to life. Five pages, measuring 15" x 22", heavy white-out in the margins, light-to-moderate within the artwork. Outstanding condition overall, this is one creepy Harvey horror tale to add to your collection!

Howard Nostrand - Original Art for Flip #1 Complete 5-page Story "Puncho Villa" (Harvey, 1950s).
There's no doubt where Harvey was drawing their mad inspiration for this extremely short-lived (two issues) satire comic. It did make good use of the versatile Howard Nostrand, however, and this western yucker features plenty of gags, and the lovely
seniorita
Rosey is worthy of any Wally Wood-illustrated story in that
other
comic. Five pages, measuring 15" x 22"; heavy white-out in the margins, some overall aging.

Al Avison - Original Art for Green Hornet #40, Complete 10-page Story, "My Money -- Your Life!" (Harvey, 1947).
Al Avison was one of the most prolific artists to work at Harvey during the 1940s and '50s. His art was normally uncredited and he tried to constrain himself to a certain "house style" that meshed well with the Harvey line of comics. Still, Avison art possesses a unique quality that did allow it to be recognized by the trained eye. Because of the relatively recent interest in identifying the more obscure artists of the Golden Age, Avison artwork has seen a renewed interest in the collector market. This a a great example of Avison's energetic, yet controlled pen and ink work. Each page was produced on thick illustration board that measure approximately 15" x 20" and have moderate staining and use of white out. The splash page is missing a circular text blurb but are otherwise complete.

Ross Andru and Mike DeCarlo - Original Cover Art for Action Comics #543 (DC, 1983).
The super-evil villain Neutron certainly seems to have the upper hand on the Man of Steel, as Metropolis goes up like a funeral pyre in the background. Ross Andru was an exceptional draftsman, and the spires of the city that provide the unnerving backdrop for this scene are rendered with an expert hand. Able inks by Mike DeCarlo round it all out. Excellent condition overall, with some light warping in the right-hand margins (does not affect the art) and general aging. The top of one skyscraper is a paste-up, but is original art. A great Modern Age cover from a Silver and Bronze Age master.
