Left Bros. - Rarer Than It May Appear
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Wata 9.0 B Sealed ["Bros." Left, First
Production], NES Nintendo 1990 USA. In our November 2020
Signature Auction, a Wata 9.2 A+ "Left Bros." sold for a world
record-breaking price of $156,000 after a stint of live bidding
that would make even the coolest and calmest of spectators clutch
their pearls. Since then, interest has fired up through our Make
Offer to Owner program for a Wata 9.0 A copy. That copy sold
for $38,400 at auction, and we've recently seen an offer come
through for as much as $72,000 -- nearly twice the price commanded
at auction. All this is just to say, the demand for the "Left
Bros." variant seems to be insatiable and ever-increasing! We've
heard many a collector lament over their struggles to find sealed
copies of this variant, and only a handful have been uncovered,
despite the best efforts of many. While there could always be
others that come out of the woodwork due to the influx of seekers,
we don't anticipate a significant number will come to light. Rarity
aside, this is certainly quite a copy to behold. Its qualities are
what one would hope for in a game as rare as this, and in-hand, it
is an impressive specimen for its grade. Even though there is a
small square that was cut from the seal (presumably, where the
original price sticker was located), this does little to nothing to
detract from its overall eye appeal.Auction Info
