First Sealed Cardboard Hangtab Copy Ever Offered at Public Auction

Rygar - Wata 9.6 B Sealed [Hangtab, First Production], NES Tecmo 1987 USA. Ah, the ever-intoxicating draw of the cardboard hangtab. For some collectors, the desire for third-party hangtab games is much greater than it is for first-party titles. Why is that one may wonder? The clear indication of how early the copy was produced is just one aspect of what makes it more attractive to some. The cardboard hangtab was nixed on third-party game packaging presumably at around the same time as it was on black box games (sometime in 1987). Nintendo, in the early days, only allowed third-party developers to release a maximum of five games per year for their NES console as a measure to enforce quality control. All this is to say, seeing a sealed cardboard hangtab copy of an already rare third-party title (that was released right before the hangtab was omitted), is truly a sight to behold!
