Directed by Masamichi Abe and designed by Katsuhiro Harada, the game is a standout port of Namco's 1997 arcade classic, which brought a more realistic feel to the series by reducing characters' jumping abilities. This installment introduced a mostly new cast, featuring now-iconic characters like Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu, Bryan Fury, Eddy Gordo, Hwoarang, and Julia Chang, bringing the roster to a total of 23 fighters. The PlayStation version offered exciting new modes, including the beat-'em-up Tekken Force and the bonus Tekken Ball mode.
