Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed - Wata 9.4 A+ Sealed [Cardboard Longbox, Early Production], PS1 EA 1996 USA. Before Sony committed to using jewel case packaging for their games, they experimented with releasing games in different types of longboxes. This particular early production version of The Need for Speed came in a longbox made of cardboard. Finding these early PlayStation releases in a sealed state is a tall order. To date, this is just the second longbox copy of this game we've offered for sale. Factoring in the extra "+" seal rating, this is the highest graded copy of the two! The importance of this game can't be understated. It is the first release in the best-selling Need for Speed franchise. When it initially released on the 3DO in 1994, players were impressed by the game's revolutionary 3D racetracks. Its addictive arcade style gameplay and variety of real-life cars to choose from made it an instant hit with racing fans. It is the only game in the franchise to feature a partnership with Road & Track magazine.
