While this game was released as the third game in the series in North America, the game itself is actually the sixth installment in the Final Fantasy series. Good thing each game stands on its own with its own story or that could get very confusing! For American audiences, this game marked the first appearance of the Moogles, a fictional species unique to the Final Fantasy series.
