A sweeping 16-bit epic, Final Fantasy III for the Super Nintendo is actually a localization of Final Fantasy VI for the Super Famicom-renumbered because only the first two Final Fantasy titles had been released in the U.S. at the time. The game pushed the console to its narrative and emotional limits, marking the final mainline entry to use traditional 2D sprite-based graphics. Set in a world where steampunk machinery met ancient magic, the game blended gameplay and cinematic storytelling through its rotating party system, Mode 7 airship travel, and unforgettable opera sequence, all driven by a memorable ensemble cast.
