Dragon Warrior (NES, Nintendo, 1989) Wata 8.5 A (Seal Rating).
    • Box: Wata 8.5; Rev-A, Oval Seal of Quality TM, Small Warranty
    • Seal: (A) First-party H-seam
    • Cartridge: 3-screw

Despite the slight fading on the top portion of the box, this still an extremely well-preserved example of the first game in the longstanding Dragon Quest series. While the 1986 Japanese release of the game was originally titled, Dragon Quest, it was renamed Dragon Warrior for western markets as part of Nintendo's localization strategy for their games. To promote the game, Nintendo of America offered the game for free to new and renewing subscribers to their magazine Nintendo Power.

While the first game in the series wasn't widely well-received in the North American market, the giveaway through Nintendo Power ensured the success of the franchise. This game spawned 10 direct sequels and numerous spin-offs. Dragon Quest is also attributed as being one of the first Role Playing Games on a console, with prior RPGs only being available for computers. Notable contributors on this title are the game designer and scenario writer Yuji Horii as well as the composer Koichi Sugiyama.
