Atari Video System X Prototype Console - 5200 Atari 1982
USA. In early 1982, the gaming industry was abuzz with
speculation about Atari's next big release, a successor to the
Atari VCS. At the Summer CES in Chicago, Atari unveiled its highly
anticipated prototype console, initially dubbed the "Video System
X" (VSX). Shortly after this debut, the system was rebranded as the
Atari 5200, but a small number of VSX prototypes were produced.This particular prototype shows significant scuffing on the console itself, a minor consideration for such a unique and integral part of Atari history. Impressively, the silver nameplate is in nice condition and still retains its original protective plastic wrap, though it is beginning to peel. For collectors of vintage gaming or fans of prototype hardware, this represents a rare and fascinating opportunity to own a pivotal artifact from Atari's development history. Console only, with hardwired RF connector. Untested, sold as-is, no returns.
