    Description

Zap Comix #0 First Printing (Apex Novelties, 1968) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages. Robert Crumb's first serious attempt at doing an "adult" comic book almost never saw print. The artwork for what Crumb planned as the first issue of Zap Comix had been shipped off to be printed, only to wind up lost for many years. Crumb proceeded to use his completed material intended for issue 2 as Zap Comix #1; when it proved to be a big hit, more issues followed. In the period between Zap #2 and #3, Crumb located a set of photocopies he had made of the pages for that proposed first issue, which he touched up and published as Zap #0. Here's a copy from the original press run of that issue, and it looks as if it had been carefully set aside by press operator Don Donahue and never cracked open. Looking for the best copy available of this historic funnybook? You found it, chum! Fogel's 2015 Underground Comix Price & Grading Guide NM- 9.2 value = $1,000. CGC census 11/15: 4 in 9.8, none higher. From the Howard Greber Collection.
