    Description

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 Signed by Stan Lee (Marvel, 1963) CGC Signature Series Apparent VF/NM 9.0 Slight (A) Off-white to white pages. How big a hit was Spider-Man in the 1960s? Let's put it this way: Unlike most comic book superheroes of the day, he received his own title within a few months of his debut. This issue retells his origin, features the first appearances of John Jameson, J. Jonah Jameson, and the Chameleon, and also has the first Fantastic Four crossover appearance. The cover is by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, with art by Ditko. This particular copy has the added bonus of being autographed on the cover by Spidey's co-creator, Stan "The Man" Lee. CGC notes, "Signed by Stan Lee on 10/29/10. Restoration includes: small amount of color touch on cover." Overstreet 2011 GD 2.0 value = $1,667; VG 4.0 value = $3,334; FN 6.0 value = $5,000; VF 8.0 value = $15,000; VF/NM 9.0 value = $34,500.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
