    Description

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) CGC VG+ 4.5 Off-white pages. With the successful release of the "Spider-Man" movie earlier in the year, Spider-Man may have become the most recognized comic book hero of all time. The historic first issue of Amazing Spider-Man began a long-running title that quickly helped make Marvel the leading publisher of comics in the 1960s. Every one of those early issues seemed to be an event, and issue #1 was no exception. J. Jonah Jameson was introduced in this issue, the Chameleon made his first appearance, and the Fantastic Four made their first crossover. This VG+ copy is actually in very nice shape, with mere technical defects that keep it out of the higher grades. There are none of the usual visual defects that normally detract from the overall appeal in this grade. This copy is nice and tight, with bright colors, and no browning. Overstreet 2002 GD 2.0 value = $800; FN 6.0 value = $2,400.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
