Description
Tales of Suspense #40 Western Penn pedigree (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM+ 9.6 White pages. The second appearance of Iron Man is much harder to find in most any grade than his first appearance in issue #39! And this is certainly the best copy of the issue we've ever sold, just topping the 9.4 Twin Cities copy that we sold last year for over $15,500! This second outing has the debut of Iron Man's gold armor, with the grey look being discarded after a single appearance. Also debuting here is Tony Stark's now-familiar attaché case for the armor, and the somewhat wacky (though fondly remembered) jet-powered skates. Jack Kirby did the art chores along with Don Heck, Larry Lieber (Stan Lee's brother), Sol Brodsky, and Steve Ditko. Overstreet 2012 NM- 9.2 value = $5,200. CGC census 7/12: 3 in 9.6, none higher.
