Description

Tales of Suspense #39 (Marvel, 1963) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. Iron Man made his first appearance here, in an issue high on most anyone's want list! Very few copies have ever been graded higher than this one. Years after this key issue came out, but decades before the character went on to star in multiple movies, Stan Lee recounted his idea to create the Howard Hughes-like main character: "He'd be a playboy, a tycoon, a man's man. But he'd have some secret sorrow, some secret life-and-death problem that would plague and torment him each day of his life." We can all agree that the concept was a winner. Cover art by Jack Kirby and Don Heck. Overstreet 2019 NM- 9.2 value = $54,000. CGC census 7/20: 21 in 9.4, 5 higher.
