Description

Showcase #4 The Flash - Bethlehem pedigree (DC, 1956) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to white pages. The most valuable Silver Age DC issue, this book introduced a new version of the Flash at a time when superheroes were all but dead. Only Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman had their own DC titles at the time, and Atlas/Marvel wasn't publishing a single costumed crusader. The new Flash, Barry Allen, had a sleek look unlike any costume seen in the Golden Age, and the art style was exciting and new, courtesy of artist Carmine Infantino.
As Paul Levitz noted, "From a 21st century perspective, with the word 'reboot' now in common language, it's hard to consider how radical the changes in [editor Julius] Schwartz's revival were, as he chose to keep the name, emblem, and essential powers of the original and tossed the rest of the elements away."
As the numbers below indicate, high-grade copies of this book are tough to come by, so bid accordingly! Overstreet 2011 VF/NM 9.0 value = $36,750; NM- 9.2 value = $56,000. CGC census 8/11: 1 in 9.0, 3 higher.
