    Description

Showcase #22 Green Lantern (DC, 1959) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Cream to off-white pages. One of the toughest books of the entire run to locate is #22, the origin and first appearance of the Silver Age Green Lantern! OK, we'll say it... Hal Jordan is a vastly better and more interesting Green Lantern than his Golden Age predecessor Alan Scott. If you too subscribe to that point of view, you'll certainly want to acquire this issue. We can certainly say that he aced his tryout in his brief Showcase run. His origin story, with Hal having his powers bestowed upon him by Abin Sur, has become legend. It's also the first appearance of Hal's love interest Carol Ferris. And it was the beginning of Gil Kane's great run as artist of the book. The issue didn't quite make Overstreet's list of the top ten Silver Age books, but it's indisputably one of the top ten DC books of that age. Overstreet 2013 FN 6.0 value = $3,000; VF 8.0 value = $9,000. CGC census 5/14: 16 in 7.0, 23 higher.
