Description

Fantastic Four #48 Northland Pedigree (Marvel, 1966) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages. One of the greatest copies of one of the greatest Marvel comics of the 1960s, this classic issue featured the first appearances of world-devouring Galactus and his reluctant herald (and eventual hero) the Silver Surfer. The Inhumans and the Watcher also appear, and Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott provided the offbeat cover and story art.
This impressive specimen outranks the Curator, White Mountain, Rocky Mountain, Suscha News, Bowling Green, and Savannah pedigree copies on CGC's census, as well as the ones from the Don & Maggie Thompson and Harlan Ellison collections. Rest assured that high-grade copies aren't exactly easy to find: of the more than 10,000 copies certified by CGC to date, only 802 have a grade of VF/NM 9.0 or higher.
This summer's The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie has generated a lot of heat under key FF books, and the Surfer and Galactus' return to the big screen make this issue a singular commodity. It is currently tied for #47 on Overstreet's list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics. Overstreet 2024 NM- 9.2 value = $12,000. CGC census 5/25: 45 in 9.8, none higher.
