Description

Fantastic Four #3 (Marvel, 1962) CGC NM- 9.2 Cream to off-white pages. We had only offered two copies ever that broke the 9.0 barrier before this one crossed our doorstep, the Curator pedigree copy (a 9.2) and a non-pedigree 9.6. Just check out the airy blue background and compare the book to whatever smudgy gray-ish copy you have lying around, and you'll certainly want to go after this upgrade. While this book doesn't sell cheap in any grade, you could argue that the values should be higher, as #3 introduces the signature look of these key characters. The first couple of issues looked more like a monster mag than a superhero book -- intentionally so, as Marvel hadn't published any costumed adventurers in a while. But here, not only did the FF don their signature costumes for the first time, but the issue also has the first appearances of the Baxter Building, the Fantasti-Car, and the Pogo Plane. Jack Kirby drew the glorious cover that has rarely looked better. Overstreet 2013 NM- 9.2 value = $11,000. CGC census 2/14: 9 in 9.2, 4 higher.
