    Description

Batman #171 Twin Cities pedigree (DC, 1965) CGC NM+ 9.6 Off-white to white pages. Not only is this the first 9.6 certified to date, a mere two copies have even made it to 9.4. This may well be the most desirable DC in the Twin Cities pedigree collection. The issue is the first Silver Age appearance of the Riddler. Not only was this his first appearance since 1948, it was the issue that "made" the character. Rumor has it that when William Dozier, who became the producer of the "Batman" TV show, first got his hands on a copy of a Batman comic, it happened to be this issue, which is why the semi-obscure villain was the featured baddie in the very first episode of the TV show. Thereafter, the Prince of Puzzlers became a fixture on the show and has appeared in the movies as well. Mr. E. Nigma is drawn here by Carmine Infantino. Overstreet 2010 NM- 9.2 value = $925. CGC census 4/11: 1 in 9.6, none higher. From the Gary Dahlberg Collection.
