Amazing Spider-Man #1 (Marvel, 1963) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages. The Webslinger had one try-out issue, Amazing Fantasy #15, some seven months earlier, and apparently that was enough for Stan Lee to determine he had a sure-fire winner. The Fantastic Four, who appear in this premiere issue, had their own comic title debut some 16 months earlier, which was unquestionably the flagship title of Marvel's Silver Age resurgence. But over the years, Spider-Man caught, then surpassed, the Fantastic Four in terms of popularity. Today, this issue ranks behind only Amazing Fantasy #15 and Showcase #4 in Overstreet value among all Silver Age comic books. Jack Kirby's collaboration with Steve Ditko on the cover is pure genius, as is Ditko's interior artwork. At Very Fine, less than 10% of the over 400 copies of this milestone book that CGC has certified to date have received higher grades, most of which graded at 8.5 or 9.0, barely higher than our offering. Overstreet 2003 VF 8.0 value = $9,350.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
