Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages....
Description
Amazing Fantasy #15 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF 8.0 Off-white pages. What a copy! It's been well over a year since we've seen a higher-graded example. To give it more perspective, in our 24-year history of auctioning comic books, we've only offered 16 copies with a higher CGC grade. Overall, CGC has certified 2,750 copies of this classic Silver Age gem to date, but barely one percent of that number has earned a Universal grade higher than VF 8.0!After so many years of reigning supreme atop Overstreet's Top 50 Silver Age Comics list, it may come as a surprise to learn that way back in 1979, when Overstreet's ninth edition first showed a separate listing of the most valuable Silver Age issues, AF #15 was ranked third, behind Fantastic Four #1 and Showcase #4, and followed closely by The Amazing Spider-Man #1 and The Incredible Hulk #1! Nowadays, not only is it far ahead of all other Silver Age issues, only a select few Golden Age issues have greater Overstreet values, even though they're much rarer. Comic collectors' affinity for all things Spider-Man have made it so!
Spidey's origin and first appearance are here, of course, along with the first appearances of Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Jack Kirby's cover is etched into any serious Silver Age collector's brain, and Steve Ditko made his auspicious entrance drawing the first Spider-Man story and defining the reluctant superhero's "look" over his run of over three years. CGC notes, "'6/11' written on cover in pencil." Overstreet 2024 VF 8.0 value = $171,300. CGC census 1/26: 29 in 8.0, 39 higher.
