Action Comics #242 (DC, 1958) CGC FN+ 6.5 Cream to off-white pages. Two major first appearances take place in this comic! It's the first appearance of one of Superman's deadliest foes, Brainiac, as well as the first appearance of the shrunken city of Kandor. In the tale, Brainiac is shrinking down Paris, Metropolis, and other cities and putting them into bottles on his space ship! Superman sneaks aboard and is stunned to find out that the Kryptonian city of Kandor still exists and is right there too, having been shrunk down before Krypton was destroyed. Both the tiny city and the fearsome Brainiac would figure in many a Superman tale in coming years. Also, we believe this is the only time Brainiac was seen without his trademark electrodes on his head. The issue has a Curt Swan cover, with interior art by Al Plastino and Jim Mooney. Overstreet 2005 FN 6.0 value = $417; VF 8.0 value = $1,181. CGC census 6/05: 2 in 6.5, 1 higher.
