    Description

Journey Into Mystery #83 (Marvel, 1962) CBCS NM+ 9.6 White pages. Last year, we were fortunate enough to have offered a 9.4 "white pages" copy of this Marvel "Super" key issue, and it had been nine years prior to that when we sold our last copy in 9.4, and that one lacked the "white pages" designation. So you can imagine our elation at having this superlative specimen cross our path!
With his recent feature film incarnations, the first appearance of Thor carries much more significance in the pop culture landscape than it did back in 2005, when we sold that first 9.4 copy.
The census figures below show how tough this issue is to acquire in this high grade. And we consistently find that most top-flight Silver Age collections that we are offered had any number of other keys in very high grade but only a moderately decent copy of this issue.
You can see in our images for yourself, but the thing that really stands out, about this book, to us, is how very fresh it looks -- and everyone knows that the cover colors of this one can quickly turn dingy and brown after not much handling or exposure.
The issue is one of Overstreet's ten most valuable Silver Age books, and the cover is by Jack Kirby, with interior art by Kirby and Steve Ditko. This appears to be the very first time that a NM+ 9.6 copy of #83 has ever come up for public auction, so expect fierce competition when bidding on this bad boy begins! Overstreet 2015 NM- 9.2 value = $60,000. CGC census 11/15: 1 in 9.6, none higher.
