G.I. Combat #55 (DC, 1957) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages. "Rock" is the name of one soldier in this issue, earning the book a spot on the list of prototypes for Sgt. Rock. As for the 9.4 grade: these are very few and far between in the early run, in fact just three copies total have been certified 9.4 in the first 95 issues of the series (Quality books included), with none graded higher. Interestingly, the "Rock" yarn was penned not by Robert Kanigher but by Batman scribe Bill Finger. Jerry Grandenetti cover. Overstreet 2011 NM- 9.2 value = $600. CGC census 11/11: 1 in 9.4, none higher. From the Keith Marlow Collection.
