    Description

Fantastic Four #3 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages. In all of the years that we have been auctioning comics we have only offered three higher-graded copies of issue #3 than this beauty! It's the issue in which the Fantastic Four became more of a traditional superhero team, donning costumes for the first time, establishing a headquarters, and coming up with their distinctive "Fantasti-Car." Stan "The Man" Lee's original idea for a team totally different than what had gone before, involved their not wearing costumes at all, as an extension of the fact that they didn't bother with secret identities. Thank goodness he reconsidered, as the outfits and gadgets became an essential aspect of the group. All except for the Thing's costume, complete with mask, that lasted about three panels! Of course, those great visuals are courtesy of co-creator Jack "King" Kirby. Overstreet 2014 VF 8.0 value = $3,100; VF/NM 9.0 value = $6,800. CGC census 8/14: 26 in 8.5, 20 higher.
