Zap Comix #1 First Printing - Plymell (Apex Novelties, 1968) CGC NM+ 9.6 Cream to off-white pages. Here's a beautiful first-printing copy of a major comic, without a doubt one of the most important comic books of the 1960s. Robert Crumb probably had no idea what he was starting when he realized a lifelong dream of producing his own comic book. Crumb wrote and drew what is now considered the first true Underground, Zap Comix #1. This important book not only paved the way for a slew of different Undergrounds that were sold in head shops all over the country for years, but it also served as the first independent comic. A side note: Crumb dated the book on the inside cover as November, 1967, but the actual printing took place in February 1968 in San Francisco, on an old press owned by Beat poet Charley Plymell. Only this first printing carried Plymell's name on the back cover, and the print run was small -- probably no more than 3,000 copies. Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide value = $10.000. CGC census 10/15: 7 in 9.6, none higher. From the Howard Greber Collection.
