Zap Comix #1 First Printing - Plymell (Apex Novelties, 1968) CGC NM 9.4 Cream to off-white pages. Here it is, Underground fans -- the Big Kahuna of 'em all. While there are a few other Undergrounds that can claim to have come before, this classic comic book is the one that not only kick-started the entire Underground Comix scene, but laid the foundation for the Independent movement that followed. And sure, there were thousands of copies printed over the years, but it's that very first, "fly by the seat of your pants" pressing that everyone wants. Of the scant 5,000 or so copies printed in San Francisco in February, 1968 (the November, 1967 date on the inside front cover was when R. Crumb actually finished the art work) on a ramshackle pre-WWII printing press, a good many were lost or damaged in a fire, and most of the copies sold were simply read to pieces. Not this super-sweet Near Mint copy! Robert Crumb stories, cover, and art. Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide Supplement NM- 9.2 value = $10,000.
