Zap Comix #1 1st Printing Signed by Plymell and Crumb (Apex Novelties, 1967) CGC VG+ 4.5 Cream to off-white pages. While we've seen quite a few first printing Zap #1's come through our doors, this one is a little special. A two-page letter from Charles Plymell, detailing fascinating information about the "birthing" process to this historic comic is included, and on the back cover, Plymell signed his name, nest to his printed credit. As the letter explains, Charley's wife Pam saw Robert Crumb at an event, and had him sign the back cover as well. Since CGC did not witness the signatures, the CGC notes state, "Charles Plymell" and R. Crumb" written on back cover. The comic shows signs of something Charley describes in the letter: "We smoked pot as we worked and little sparks fell on the copies." In the upper right corner of the front cover, there is a small burn stain. We can't say for sure how that got there, but it's entirely possible that Crumb and Plymell were passing a joint as this copy was being folded and stapled. Who knows? Makes for a cool story though! Robert Crumb stories, cover, and art. Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide GD 2.0 value = $1,600; FN 6.0 value = $4,800. CGC census 10/15: 1 in 4.5, 76 higher. From the Howard Greber Collection.
