    Description

Tales From the Ozone #1 (Russ Gibb Productions, 1969) CGC NM/MT 9.8 Off-white to white pages. Wow, man! This impossible-to-find Underground is made even more impossible by a truly mind-blowing grade. This comic was originally distributed at a Michigan Rock music festival produced by Russ Gibb, the promoter responsible for concerts at Detroit's Grande Ballroom (there's an ad for then-upcoming shows at the Grande on the back cover, featuring bands like The Who, Jethro Tull, Canned Heat, and Velvet Underground). If you weren't in the area that summer of '69, locating this little gem could be a daunting task. Finding one in NM/MT 9.8? We don't see how, but here one is. Artists include Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, and Vaughn Bodé. Fogel's 2015 Underground Comix Price & Grading Guide NM- 9.2 value = $2,000. CGC census 10/15: 4 in 9.8, none higher. From the Howard Greber Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
