DescriptionNickel Library Group (Eric Fromm/Gary Arlington, 1970s). These unusual items were produced in the halcyon days when Underground Comix were big sellers, especially through mail-order firms like Bob Sidebottom's Comics and Comix and Gary Arlington's San Francisco Comics Shop. Gary had these one-pagers printed up on heavy, often colored stock, three-hole binder punched, to offer to mail-order customers at a nickel apiece; the first few were fairly tame reprintings of classic comic art. Somewhere down the line he got the idea to assign UG artists new covers for the long-cancelled EC line of comics (like Weird Fantasy and Two-Fisted Tales), and this is where the fun really begins. Many of the pages here are from this fantasy line of ECs, with art by Charles Dallas, Dave Geiser, and more, mixed in with rare art by Frank Frazetta, Alex Toth, Robert Crumb, and others. Finding these items can be very tough, mainly due to the fact the EC publisher William Gaines demanded Arlington stop the bogus covers and destroy all remaining copies. Here's a near-complete set!
