Gothic Blimp Works Group of 8 (East Village Other, 1969) Condition: Average VF. The Underground Comix movement drew momentum from the Underground newspapers, like The East Village Other and The Berkeley Barb during 1967-68. Using the tabloid newsprint format, a group of UG cartoonists produced their own paper featuring nothing but comic strips. Vaughn Bodé acted as editor, and such leading lights as Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, S. Clay Wilson, Spain Rodriguez, Kim Deitch, Robert Williams, and others contributed strips. The eight issues of Gothic Blimp Works are among the most difficult UG Comix to find in any grade, with very few choice, unfolded copies. Here's one of the nicest sets we've seen -- extraordinary copies, worthy of a place in the most serious of Underground collections. Adult themes. Fogel's 2015 Underground Price & Grading Guide FN value for group = $1,980; NM- value = $3,300. From the Eric Sack Collection.
