God Nose First Printing (Jack Jackson, 1964) Condition: FN-. The early 1960s saw the rise of irreverent, envelope-pushing comic strips being created by college students. Most of these strips saw print in student-run magazines, but on occasion, the artist would self-publish a collection, and that's what Jaxon (pen name for Jack Jackson) did. He had attended Texas A&M before moving to Austin in the early sixties, where he befriended the staff of UT's Texas Ranger magazine (including his future publishing partner, Gilbert Shelton). In 1964, he printed 1,000 copies of God Nose, a 42-page comic about God and the "fools he rules," and sold them around the UT campus. It's considered by many to be the first true Underground comic book. We've taken into consideration the construction paper cover in assigning it a grade; there are a few very minor creases down the middle from folding, and some minor discoloration at the top and bottom edges, but overall it remains a nice-looking copy of a very important, and hard to find, book. Not listed in Overstreet; Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide Supplement FN value = $3,500.
