Astounding Stories Bound Volumes Group (Street & Smith, 1930-41). These are gorgeous file copies of Astounding Stories that have been trimmed and bound into a set of 33 hardcover volumes. This set represents most of the long-running series' first decade, considered by many to be the "Golden Age" of science fiction, and a time when Astounding was the pre-eminent sci-fi publication. (The bylines featured in these issues is a veritable "Who's Who" of sci-fi legends.) Included are the January (first issue), February (only story by Hugh B. Cave to appear in the title), March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December 1930; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August (letter to editor from Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel), September, October, November, and December 1931; January (gorilla cover), February, March, April, May, June, September, and November 1932; January, March, October (first Street & Smith issue), November, and December (only Clark Ashton Smith story to appear in title) 1933; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August ("Skylark of Valeron" by E. E. Smith), September, October, November (first John W. Campbell story to appear in title -- under pseudonym), and December 1934; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December 1935; January, February ("At the Mountains of Madness" by H. P. Lovecraft), March, April, May, June ("Shadow Out of Time" by Lovecraft), July, August, September, October, November, and December 1936; January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December (first issue with Campbell as editor)1937; May, June, July (first published sci-fi story by L. Ron Hubbard), August ("Who Goes There?" by Campbell), September, October, November, and December 1938; January, February, March, April, May, June, July (first published sci-fi story by A. E. van Vogt, first Isaac Asimov story in title), August (first published sci-fi story by Robert A. Heinlein, Virgil Finlay's only cover for the title), September (first published sci-fi story by Theodore Sturgeon), October ("Gray Lensman" by Smith), November, and December 1939; January, February (first published sci-fi story by Leigh Brackett), March, April, May, June, July, August, September ("Slan" by van Vogt), October, November, and December 1940; and January, February, March, April, May (first appearance of Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics), June, July, August, September, October, November ("Second Stage Lensman" by Smith), and December 1941 issues. The pulps are in overall very nice condition with supple pages, glossy covers, and some instances of wear and tearing. Some have white or off-white pages.
