Description

Weird Tales - March 1923 First Issue, First-State Copy (Popular Fiction) Condition: VG. The first issue from the longest-running and most influential of all pulp horror titles. This copy is a "first state," identified by the orange border around "Ooze," the man's orange shirt, and the woman's black bow (colors are different on the rarer "second state" printing). Bookery's Guide to Pulps describes the 1923 issues as "the rarest", and this is only the second copy of the first state version we've encountered to date (the other being a copy in FR condition). This copy is in impressive condition, especially given the fact that it is nearly a century old. There are four 1" pieces of tape on the interior of the back cover. There is very minor chipping to the top and bottom of the spine, and the top half-inch of the spine has been re-glued. The pages are overall cream to light tan with slightly darker edges that exhibit only very light chipping. There is a very small spot stain on page 69/70. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition VG value = $9,000.
