Spicy Mystery Stories #5 October 1935 (Culture) CGC NM- 9.2 Off-white to white pages. "Satan's Mistress" stuns in high grade on this sublime copy of an all-time classic. Known for his skill at painting beautiful women, Norman Saunders created an iconic piece of "good girl" art for this issue's classic hypodermic needle / bondage cover. This impossibly beautiful copy is as pretty as pulps ever get, with crisp colors and ideal centering underscoring a flawless image area.While calling this sole highest-graded may seem obvious, it understates just how impressive this is. This is one of only three Spicy Mystery issues graded 9.2 by CGC, with only one higher-graded copy of any issue of Spicy Mystery (the CGC 9.6 Spicy Mystery #1 also featured in this Auction). We auctioned a CGC 6.5 copy of this issue earlier this year, ending at a whopping $22,800. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition 2020 VF 8.0 value = $2,000. CGC census 10/25: 1 in 9.2, none higher. NOTE: The newly released Bookery's Guide to Pulps: Revised Third Edition 2025 VF 8.0 value for this issue is $30,000.
